HOW IT HAPPENED
- Two quick lead changes occurred through the early stages of the first until back-to-back triples from Martin and Beckwith helped Emerson surge for a 15-2 run to venture into a double-digit lead at 19-7 with 13:01 on the clock.
- Emerson held the 10-point advantage at 8:42 on Houston's trey (28-10), but the offense stalled over the next seven minutes. The Lions' once dominant lead dwindled as MIT's 16-6 run locked the score at 34-all when Boone drained a triple.
- McNamara's three with 36 ticks on the clock fell through and capped off Emerson's quick 5-0 spurt down the stretch and put the Lions' ahead, 39-34, going into the break.
- Emerson's perimeter was displayed in the second and helped the Lions outscore MIT, 50-24, as they converted 69.2% of their shots beyond the arc.
- The opening five minutes of the second half was when Emerson's offense started to put distance between them and MIT. From the 19:06 mark all the way to 14:17, the hosts spread a 19-6 run that consisted of triples from Davis, Beckwith and graduate Sean Coman.
- After Coman drained a shot from downtown and capped off the run at 14:16, the Lions found themselves up by 18 at 58-40.
- A pair of baskets from Delgado-Gonzalez and Parker Spann moved MIT back to within 14, which was the closest the Engineers would come to Emerson in the closing 11 minutes.
- Within a little over three minutes, Martin and Beckwith drained a combined five threes, two from Martin and three from Beckwith. Behind five three's, Emerson's margin was boosted into the 20s at 79-51 at the 5:21 mark.
- Free throws and a pull-up jumper from Beckwith extended Emerson's cushion into the 30s at 4:22. The hosts kept rolling and capped off their scoring with a top of the key three from freshman Peyton Lodge to set the final at 89-58.
