The Lead: The Emerson softball team took the split in its second to last doubleheader of the season against Wellesley on Friday afternoon. The Lions took game behind a dominant one-hit complete game showing from freshman Jessica Gomez, 4-1. In the nightcap, the Purple & Gold fell to the Blue, 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson went to work with two outs in the home half of the third and crossed three runs to snag the 3-0 lead.
- Semanchik sent in Emerson's first run when her RBI single landed into the left center gap to put the Lions up, 1-0. With runners on second and third, Overton barreled a two-bagger into right center to plate both Semanchik and Killough.
- Wellesley threatened in the top of the fourth with runners on second and third, but Gomez escaped the inning unscathed as she sent Young down on strikes to wrap the inning.
- Gomez helped herself out in the sixth as she rocketed an RBI double to the wall in right center to bring in freshman Sam Zannotti to up Emerson's advantage to 4-0.
- Sgambati took Gomez yard and sent a solo home run over the left field fence to put Wellesley on the board and cut the lead to 4-1 in the top of the seventh.
- The Blue had chance to extend their with a runner on third, but a grounder to third wrapped the 4-1 win for the Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson jumped at the chance in their half of the first to take the 1-0 lead thanks to Overton, who sent an RBI up the middle to plate Semanchik.
- Cain answered in Wellesley's top of the second and singled in Sgambati for the 1-1 equalizer.
- Overton once again gave Emerson the edge as her RBI single made its way under the reach of the third baseman and into left to push the hosts to the 2-1 lead.
- In the Wellesley's fifth, a wild pitch and Moniz's sacrifice fly into shallow right allowed Wellesley to claim its first lead of the day at 3-2.
- Cain used a two-bagger that found its way into right to give Wellesley the two-run lead at 4-2 after six. Then in the seventh, Wellesley tacked used Alexander's RBI single to right to plate one more run and extend their lead to 5-2.
- Emerson registered back-to-back hits, first a double from Shofi followed by a single from Pratt, to keep their bottom of the seventh alive with two outs. Semanchik grounded out to third to wrap the inning as the Lions fell, 5-2.

- Emerson enters its final regular season twin bill tomorrow, Saturday, April 30th, hosting Smith on Senior Day with the first pitch slated for 2:00 p.m.
