GAME ONE: Springfield 2, Emerson 1

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Calli Pratt: 1 RBI

Lexi Semanchik: 1 for 4 with 1 run scored

Pitching:

Jessica Gomez: 5 strikeouts and 2 runs through 7 innings pitched

Breannah McCann: 2 for 3 with 2 RBI

Sam Witmer: 2 for 3 with 1 run scored

Pitching:

Gillian Kane:  1 strikeout and 1 run through 7 innings pitched

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both offenses struggled to get going as Lions Freshman Jessica Gomez and Springfield's Gillian Kane were able to keep their opposing bats at bay.
  • The Lions were able to strike first when Senior Calli Pratt drove a sacrifice fly to right field; plating fellow Senior Lexi Semanchik and giving the Lions a 1-0 advantage after 3 complete innings.
  • Springfield would not waste any time before answering. In the top half of the 4th inning, back-to-back singles would set the table for Breannah McCann to double to center field, driving home 2 runs and giving Springfield a 2-1 lead.
  • Sophomore Claire Overton would lead off the home half of the 4th inning with a single to center field, but would subsequently be stranded at 3rd base and the score would remain 2-1 in favor of Springfield.
  • Gomez and Kane would continue to keep the bats quiet; unfortunately for Emerson, 2 runs be all that Springfield needed as they were able to secure a 2-1 victory in Game 1 of the doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lions jumped out to an early lead in Game 2 as Freshman Sam Zannotti would reach base on a walk, steal 2nd base before Sophomore Makenzie Killough drove a ball to center field; plating Zannotti and giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
  • Senior Calli Pratt would follow up with a single of her own; followed by an Ally Lacey single which plated Killough and increased the Lions lead to 2-0 after one complete inning.
  • Both teams would go down in order in the 2nd inning before Springfield would answer in the top half of the 3rd inning. With 1 out in the inning, Springfield was able to manufacture 2 runs to tie the game at 2-2.
  • The Lions would get those 2 runs right back in the bottom of the 4th when Lacey and Senior Mary Kuczkowski hit back-to-back singles. Freshman Grace Beaulieu followed up with a 2 RBI single; plating both Lacey and Kuczkowski. This gave Emerson a 4-2 lead after 4 complete innings.
  • With 2 outs in the 6th inning, Springfield would string together 4 singles and a double, ultimately plating 6 runs in the inning; extending the Pride's lead to 8-4.
  • The Pride added another run in the top of the 7th, pushing their lead to 9-4 and the Lions were unable to answer; allowing Springfield to secure Game 2 with a 9-4 victory.
