HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE
- Emerson came out with an early 6-2 lead in a run that included a trio of kills, attack error by Endicott and an ace. The Lions were able to maintain a lead of three until the Gulls were able to jump ahead at 10-9 on a kill from Cruz.
- Starting on an attack error from Mason Mallory, Emerson tallied the next four points to take the three-point lead at 13-10 and kept themselves in front. Up 20-19, Emerson surrendered the next three point to Endicott for the visitors to claim the 22-20 advantage.
- A pair of kills from sophomore Neiko Pittman and freshman Jack Miessner kept Emerson alive and within one on three occasions, but it was a service error by the Lions that gave the Gulls the 25-23 win.
SET TWO
- The biggest lead Endicott held in the second was four, which they maintained two times, once at 13-9 and 15-11. Down four at 15-11, a Pittman swing, an ace and Gulls attack miscue allowed the Lions to creep within one at 15-14.
- Emerson trailed by three deep into the frame at 20-17 after a quick 3-1 spurt by Endicott. The Lions capitalized on four consecutive attack errors by Endicott and snagged the lead 21-20. This was the first first time since the opening of the frame that Emerson held the lead.
- Endicott responded with the next three-of-four points to jump ahead 23-22, yet a service error by the Gulls equalized the score at 23-all. Emerson's comeback hopes were halted as Endicott registered the final two points of the set on a kill and ace, 25-23.
SET THREE
- After the score was locked at 3-all, Endicott began to pull away on a 4-0 streak to put the score at 7-3.
- Throughout the middle of the third, Emerson was able to keep within reach of Endicott by no more than four points. Down 17-15, Emerson saw its deficit increase to five at 20-15.
- Emerson continued to stay within three towards the end of the set at 22-19, but Endicott was able to register the last three of four points as Emerson fell in the third set, 25-20.
