The Lead: Sophomores Luke Roehm and Neiko Pittman paced the Emerson men's volleyball team with double-figure kill effort in the Lions' 3-1 setback to Concordia Wisconsin on Tuesday night at Brown & Plofker Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• Emerson racked up a .370 hit percentage in the first set, 25-18, to take the early 1-0 lead over Concordia Wisconsin. 
• After coming out the gate with a 4-0 lead, Emerson was able to maintain a steady advantage of at least five until the midway point of the first. With the score 14-9, the Falcons answered with a 5-0 spurt to lock the score at 14-all. 
• The Lions tallied the next seven of nine points to hold a five-point cushion at 21-16 on a kill from Pittman. Concordia got a kill on their side to move within four at 21-17, yet it was Emerson who notched the set's final four points and sealed the 25-18 win on Roehm's swing. 
• To start off the second, Emerson once again held a lead at 4-3, but this time Concordia battled back to take the lead on a 5-0 spurt, a lead the Falcons would not let up for the remainder of the set. 
• The closest Emerson came to Concordia was four at 12-8 before the visitors were able to tack on 11 more points to push their cushion to eight at 23-15. 
• Back-to-back kills from Roehm and freshman Ramsis De Los Santos followed by a Falcons ball handling miscue inched the Lions within five at 23-18. Emerson's comeback was cut short after Concordia recorded two kills of their own to take the second set, 25-18.
• Concordia began the third with an 11-5 lead the Emerson was able to erase down to three thanks to a 5-2 run and put the score at 13-10. The Falcons extended their lead back up to six, but once again, the Lions responded with the next six of nine points to get back within three at 19-16. 
• Emerson trailed Concordia by four in the closing part of the third and fell, 25-20, on a kill from Gonzales. 
• Down five at 8-5 in the beginning of the fourth, Emerson watched their deficit extend to 10 after Concordia ignited an 8-1 run to put the score at 16-6. Emerson came back with a four-point run of their own to inch back within six at 16-10. 
• Started on a kill from Herman, the visitors set off and tacked on the set's final eight of nine points as Emerson fell in the fourth set, 25-11.
