HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE
- Amherst jumped out to a early 8-1 lead. Errors by Emerson and kills from Amherst's Sam Underwood and Caroline Tilton gave the Mammoths a comfortable lead.
- Kills by Freshman Taylor Esmie and Sophomore Parker Cummings during an Emerson rally helped close the Amherst lead to only 3 points.
- The Mammoths quickly stifled the Lions rally by scoring 9 of the next 12 points scored, opening an 17-8 lead.
- The Lions would continue to battle throughout the remainder of the set, but Amherst's lead proved to be too large and the Mammoths ultimately won set one by a score of 25-14.
SET TWO
- Unfortunately for the Lions, the second set started off similarly to the previous set. Amherst jumped out to a 9-2 lead; making it difficult for the Lions to battle back.
- Esmie helped the Lions battle as she tallied three of her 9 kills in the second set.
- Similar to set number one, the Lions were unable to overcome the Mammoths early lead and lost set two by a score of 25-14.
SET THREE
- Three consecutive errors by Amherst gave the Lions their first lead of the match.
- The Lions proceeded to build their lead to 6-4 as Sophomore Amelia Combs tallied two consecutive kills and an ace for Emerson.
- Kills by Cummings, Senior Logan Steenbergen and Sophomore Brooke Maynez helped the Lions increase their lead to 10-6.
- Emerson continued to hold the lead throughout the set, until Amherst was able to storm back and tie the set at 19-19.
- Emerson scored two consecutive points to regain a 21-19 lead before Amherst rattled off three points in a row.
- The Lions again tied the set at 22-22 before Amherst rattled off another three consecutive points to secure the 25-22 victory and a 3-0 match victory.
