Dickerson double-double leads Lions to fourth-straight win

BOSTON, Mass. (October 27, 2026) – Emerson College, ranked No. 24 in this week's NCAA Division III NPI rankings and receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III coaches poll, swept its way to its fourth-straight win with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-12) decision over Wheaton College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's volleyball matchup at Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gymnasium tonight.

Senior Rachel Dickerson paced Emerson with her sixth double-double of the season (13th career) with a match-high ten kills and ten digs, while junior Sophia Schiappa dished out 14 assists with six digs. Senior Lauren Yoo contributed a match-high 19 digs with two assists and three service aces, while junior Chloe Hokenson added eight kills, four aces, five digs and five block assists, while sophomore Lizi Horning chipped in six kills.

First year Maddie Botelho led Wheaton with nine kills and eight digs, while senior Jackie Hochberg added 11 digs and two assists. Junior Elena Timo tallied ten assists and three digs for the Lyons.

Emerson pulled away to grab the opening set, reeling off seven-straight points on junior Sami Kim's serve for an 18-12 lead, keyed by three of Dickerson's four kills in the opening frame during that run, while Hokenson also delivered three kills for the Lions. Wheaton closed back to within two (21-19) after a Botelho kill, but Emerson closed the set out behind a Horning kill and ace by sophomore Dalena Garrett for set point.

Emerson used six-straight points on Schiappa's serve to take control of the second set (20-12), keyed by a pair of kills from Horning who finished the set with three. The Lions also got five blocks in the frame, including four assists apiece for Hokenson and sophomore Emma Luehring.

Emerson completed the sweep, again taking control of the third set on Kim's serve, opening a 9-3 lead with six-straight points, including a pair of aces, while Dickerson chipped in two kills, and did not look back. The Lions hit .360 in the set as a team with just two errors, including four kills on six total attacks for Dickerson in the set without an error.

Emerson (17-4, 7-2 NEWMAC) returns to action here on Boylston Street on Saturday when it hosts Colby-Sawyer College and Bard College for a non-conference tri-match at Brown & Plofker Gym starting at 10 a.m. Wheaton (7-16, 2-7 NEWMAC) hosts Rhode Island College on Thursday at 7 p.m.
