HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson controlled much of the opening set as they jumpstarted to a six-point cushion (10-4) behind a pair of aces from Scott. Aces were the name of the game for Emerson as the Lions served up three more within a 9-1 streak that extended the host's lead to 19-6.
- The Lions continued to rattle off point after point and ballooned its lead into double figures thanks to a Blue service error (20-9). The Purple & Yellow held the visitors to 13 points and came away with the 25-13 win on a swing by freshman Parker Cummings.
- With the score locked at 3-all in the second, Wellesley charged ahead with the next six of eight points to snag the 9-5 lead. The Blue's lead was short-lived as the Lions rattled off another lengthy run of 6-0 to jump ahead by a pair (11-9).
- Emerson held a lead of four at 17-13 that was erased by four consecutive points from Wellesley to lock the game three more times, once at 17, 18 and then 20. Emerson registered three more points on a kill and attack errors by Wellesley and narrowly edged past the Blue on back to back kills to wrap the 25-22 set two win.
- To start off the third, Wellesley jumped out to the fast 10-4 lead, its biggest lead of the game before Emerson inched back on a 4-0 run to close within two (10-8). Wellesley maintained its advantage at 16-11 only to see Emerson storm back as the Lions answered with the next six points to regain the edge. (17-16).
- Wellesley fought and locked the game up five more times before Emerson was one point away from the sweep, but it was the Blue who tallied the last three points to take the come from behind 26-24 win and force a fourth set.
- Emerson wasted no time to begin the fourth and banged out a 10-2 lead out the gate. The Lions kept the Blue out of reach for the middle of the set until the visitors caught momentum and closed the gap to within three (19-16).
- Three is the closest Wellesley would come to Emerson as the Lions propelled their way to the 25-16 fourth set victory with the help of a late 6-0 spark.
