The Lead: The Emerson softball team suffered a pair of losses to the WPI ENgineers on Saturday, falling 7-2 in Game one and 14-0 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Top 1st: WPI took control in the game early, with the first batter, MArissa Gonzales reaching base by getting hit by a pitch. After reaching second, Gonzales came home on an error by the Lions. HEss' single brought home two more runs to give WPI a 3-0 lead. WPI added two more runs on an Alicia Salvalzo single to take a 5-0 lead after the top inning of the first frame.
Bottom 3rd: Emerson scored their first run in the third inning, with Karagan Knowles (Tucson, Ariz) reaching first with a single. Lexi Semanchik (Flemington, N.J.) came to the plate two batters later and drove home Knowles with a triple to center field, cutting the Engineers lead to four at 5-1.
4th inning: WPI restored their five run lead in the top of the fourth frame, on a GOnzales double to right field that drove home Leila Camplese. Emerson fought back with Lindsey Lowe (Porter Ranch, Calif.) stealing home on a passed ball in the bottom of the inning, taking the lead back down to four.
Top 7th: Jocelyn Diaz drove home Meinhold with a single to restore the Engineers five run lead once again, with the Lions unable to overcome the deficit in the final frame, falling 7-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Top 3rd: The score remained at zero for both teams until the top of the third, when Meinhold drove in the first run with a bases loaded walk. Logrecco doubled home HEss and Gonzales to give WPI a 3-0 lead, before Diaz drove home Meinhold to give the Engineers a 4-0 lead.
Top 5th: Two innings later, Meinhold drove in another run with Hess scoring on her double to left field. The Engineers added two more runs through a Diaz sacrifice fly and Logrecco coming home on a passed ball.
Top 7th: The Engineers loaded the bases with no outs, and Diaz drove home three more runs with a bases clearing double, giving the Engineers a 10-0 lead. WPI added four more runs in the inning, taking a 14-0 lead which the Lions did not make a dent in, falling 14-0.
