BOSTON, Mass. - It is playoff season once again at Emerson with the Emerson men's basketball team entering the NEWMAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Lions look to get things rolling once again after shouldering three straight losses as they prepare to host No. 5 Coast Guard on Wednesday night in the NEWMAC Quarterfinal game.
A LOOK BACK
- The Lions have been on the losing end of three consecutive setbacks with a pair of losses this past week to Babson and Coast Guard to put its overall record at 14-11 and a NEWMAC record of 7-7.
- Emerson celebrated its pair of seniors last Wednesday night, who are Jack O'Connor and Ben Holding, but came up short against Babson in its first home loss since January 22.
- The 2019-2020 season wrapped up down at Coast Guard and despite a season-high 20 points from Max Davis (Oakland, Calif.), the Purple & Gold fell to the Bears, 102-99.
PACING ON THE PERIMETER
- Freshman James Beckwith (Palo Alto, Calif.) stands strong at the top of the three-point percentage leaderboard and holds a perimeter percentage of 47.4%, just ahead of Springfield's Heath Post and WPI's Jake Needleman.
- Beckwith remains the only freshman to rank within the top-10 of NEWMAC three-point shooters.
TEAM EFFORT
- Through the regular season, the Emerson offense leads the pack with the top field goal percentage in the NEWMAC at 48.6% as a team alongside a conference best 17.0 assists per game.
- On the other side of the ball, the Lions defense has pulled down a NEWMAC-leading 29.3 defensive rebounds per game all while sending down 4.4 blocks a game, which also leads the conference.
