The Lead: Emerson's softball team split a doubleheader on Saturday, taking the first game against Coast Guard 9-0 behind a three RBI game from Lexi Semanchik (Flemington, N.J.).
Game 1
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Karagan Knowles (Tucson, Ariz.) earned the victory for the Lions, pitching five innings, striking out six batters and only allowing one hit.
- Sydney Arendt took the loss, allowing eight hits and four earned runs over 3.2 innings pitched.
- Lexi Semanchik led the Lions with three hits in three at bats. She also had three RBIs.
- Kallista Leonardos (El Granada, Calif.), Lindsey Lowe (Porter Ranch, Calif.), and Calli Pratt (Dighton, Mass.) each had two RBIs while Marisa DeFranco had two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson scored the first run of the game on a Semanchik single in the first inning that brought home Leonardos.
- A pair of doubles by Leonardos and Semanchik added two more runs in the bottom of the third before a Pratt single brought home Semanchik, giving Emerson a 4-0 lead after three innings.
- The Lions added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning behind a Lowe single to left field that brought some two runs.
- Emerson lead by nine after five innings, giving them the victory.
GAME 2
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Julia Ferris earned the win for Coast Guard, scattering seven this over a seven inning complete game and striking out two batters.
- Neely Eddleston took the loss, scattering eight hits.
- DeFranco led all players with two hits for the Lions.
- Maggie Perez had two RBIs for the Bears.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Coast Guard scored all of their runs in the first inning. Sowers reached first on an error with the bases loaded that brought home two runs.
- A Perez double brought home two more runs before a Kylie Vavarek double brought home Perez and gave Coast Guard a 5-0 lead.
- Emerson scored on two sacrifice flies, one in the first inning by Leonardos that brought home DeFranco and one in the fifth by Lowe that also brought home DeFranco.
- Coast Guard won the game 5-2, giving the teams a split of the doubleheader.
UP NEXT
- Emerson is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Wellesley to make-up the second part of a doubleheader that was rained out due to rain. The game will start at 4:30.
