The Lead:  Emerson's softball team fell in both parts of a NEWMAC doubleheader to the MIT Engineers on Saturday, with the teams playing to a high scoring first game and a pitching duel in the second game.  

Game 1: 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Micaela Dix (White House Station, N.J.) led all players with three RBIs and one home run for the Lions.
  • Lindsey Lwoe had two hits for the Lions, while Sierra Rozensweig had three triple for the Engineers.
  • Katelyn Torlincasi took the loss in relief and Ravenne Nasser earned the complete game victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emerson jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning, opening the scoring on a bases loaded walk by Micaela Dix (White House Station, N.J.) to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
  • Katelyn Torlincasi reached based on a throwing error with the bases loaded, which brought home Lowe and Leonardos, extending the Lions lead to three after one frame.  
  • MIT grabbed five back in the top of third inning to take the lead. Rosenzweig tripled to open the frame and Goetz singled to bring her home.  After Goetz stole second, she came around to score off of a Chatterjee single.  
  • A two out single by Madi Pickett tied the score at three before Kassidy Peterson singled to bring home two more runs, giving MIT a 5-3 lead.
  • A two run home run in the bottom of the third frame by Dix tied the score at five a piece.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, MIT took the lead back with a three run frame, headlined by a Sarah Von Ahn double to center field which drove in a run.
  • The engineers added on two more runs, one in the top of the fifth and one in the top of the seventh, taking a five run lead at 10-5.
  • Emerson loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, and got one run back on a Mallory Shofi single.  The Lions were unable to overcome the deficit, falling 10-6.

 

GAME 2

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Semanchik had two hits in the second game, while five players for MIT combined for six hits. 
  • Madi Pickett had two RBIs for the Engineers and Pratt had one for the Lions.
  • Colleen Campbell earned the victory while Neely Eddleston took the loss in four innings pitched.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emerson took the lead in the bottom of the first after Lexi Semanchik single, where she advanced to third on an error.  Calli Pratt singled Semanchik home in the next at bat, giving Emerson the 1-0 lead.
  • Pickett doubled to left field in the top of the fourth inning, deriving in two runs and giving MIT a 2-1 lead.  A Phoebe Li single followed, that brought home Pickett and extended the Engineers' lead to 3-1.
  • No other team scored, in the rest of the game, giving MIT the victory in seven innings. 

UP NEXT

  • Emerson gets back to Rotch Field on Saturday when they welcome Coast Guard Academy for a doubleheader with a 12:00pm Start.
