The Lead: The Emerson men's Volleyball Team fell to the Regis (Mass.) Pride on Thursday night, in a match where senior Mark Pioorkowski (Montclair, N.J.) earned the 1000th kill of his career.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Piorkowski paced all players on the court with 23 kills, adding 13 digs, two service aces and one block. Piorkowski now has 1017 career kills.
- Win Kittivatcharapong (Bangkok, Thailand) added 18 kills with 7 digs for the Lions.
- Three players hit double-digit kills for the Pride, with Matt Ferrara leading all Regis players with 18.
- Lucas Raagas (Cambridge, Mass.) led all players with 38 assists for the Lions while Sebastian Valdes had 29 for the Pride.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions fell in the first set, with both teams trading points. Regis took four of the first five points, with the Lions coming back.
- After a kill by Sam WIllinger (Golden Beach, Fla.) put the Lions down four at 22-18, Regis took the next three points to take the set 25-18.
- The second set was much closer, with both teams keeping the other from creating a big lead. The Lions jumped out to a four point lead on an attack error by Regis at 16-12.
- After the Pride came back and tied the score at 23 a piece, a pair of kills by Mark Piorkowski gave Emerson the victory, and Piorkowski has 1000th kill.
- The third set started the same way, with both teams staying close at the start. Emerson opened up a five point lead on a Willinger kill at 15-10, before Regis came back and knotted the score at 15.
- After the score was tied Emerson took a two point lead, and did not let Regis take the lead back, taking the third set 25-23 on a Piorkowski kill.
- In the fourth set, Emerson and Regis went back and forth with no team taking a big lead. The Lions ended up falling in extra points, 28-26, taking the match to a fifth set.
- The shortened fifth set had the Linos lose by two, 15-13, and fall in the match 3-2.
