The Lead: Neely Eddleston (West Wareham, Mass.) pitched two completely games to lift the Lions past it's NEWMAC opponent Clark Cougars on Friday, bringing the Lions record to 7-9 in conference play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Eddleston pitched a complete game shut out in game one, striking out four batters and scattering six hits.
- Micaela Dix (White House Station, N.J.) was the only Lion with multiple hits, as well as the only players to score a run.
- Christina Kopacz and Olivia Barksdale each had two this for the Cougars.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The score remained tied at zero until the second inning, with both teams threatening throughout the game but neither able to put a runner across home plate.
- Emerson opened up the bottom of the seventh frame with a double by Dix. Mallory Shofi (Ridgefield, Conn.) bunted a single that moved Dix over to third and Shofi reached first.
- With Morgan Mitchell (Riverton, Utah) up to bat, a wild pitch gave Dix enough time to run home and score the games winning run, walking off at 1-0 for the Lions.
Game 2:
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Eddleston earned her second win of the day, pitching even innings, scattering five hits, allowing on run and striking out four batters.
- Emerson's lone RBI came from Lexi Semanchik (Flemington, N.J.) , while four players had hits for the Lions.
- Clark's only RBI came from JC Urella, who launched a home run to center field as one of five Cougar hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson grabbed two runs in the bottom of the third inning when Marisa DeFranco reached on an error that brought home Dix and Morgan Mitchell, taking a 2-0 lead.
- The Lions added one more when Semanchik walked to bringing home Shofi.
- Clark grabbed a run back in the top of the sixth inning through Urella's home run, cutting the Lions lead to 3-1.
- The Lions got the ruin back in the bottom of the frame when Shofi and Calli Pratt executed a double steal that had Pratt cross the plate before Shofi was tagged out, giving the Lions the 4-1 lead.
- Eddleston closed out the top of the seventh, earning her second complete game victory on the day and the Lions the sweep over Clark.
UP NEXT
- Emerson's originally scheduled doubleheader for Saturday has been postponed due to expected inclement weather, and will now be played against Wheaton (Mass.) on Tuesday, with the games starting at 3:30.
