The Lead: The Emerson Softball team was swept by the Springfield Pride, falling in both games On Saturday in Springfield, Mass.
GAME 1
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Neely Eddleston (West Wareham, Mass.) struck out two batters over 6.2 inning pitched, scattering seven hits dn shouldering the loss for Emerson.
- Valenti earned the win pitching one third of an inning, while Shelby Allen pitched 6.2 innings, allowing three hits and striking out five batters.
- Kallista Leonardos (El Granada, Calif.) had a game high two RBIs. Marisa DeFranco (Great Falls, Va.) and Mary Kuczkowski (Litchfield, N.H.) each had one for Emerson.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Springfield opened ups he scoring in the bottom half of the first inning, with Alexyss Conley coming around on a Yaixsa Vargas groundout.
- Vargas helped add another run in the bottom of the fourth inning, doubling to bring home Ava Fernandez.
- A Shelby Allen single brought the score to 3-0 after four innings.
- The Lions fought back in the top of the seventh inning, loading the bases. DeFranco and Kuczkowski walked to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of Springfield.
- Leonardos singles, bringing home DeFranco and Micaela Dix, giving the Lions their first lead of the game at 4-3.
- IN the bottom half of the inning, an Allie Wheeler triple tied the score at four a piece, bringing home Meghan Sastrom.
- Only hit a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home the winning run in Wheeler, ending the game on a walk-off at 5-4.
GAME 2
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Conley led all players with five RBIs on two hits and had one run scored.
- Allen and Salviette each added two RBIs, with two this by Allen.
- Calli Pratt (Dighton, Mass.) had three hits on the day, driving in one run and DeFranco had one hit with two RBIs.
- Pratt took the loss on the hill, striking out two batters over three inning.
- Kane earned the win for SPringfield, scattering ten hits over the seven inning complete game,, with three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Springfield opened up the scoring in the first inning, bringing home two runs.
- The Pride added one four more runs in the bottom of the second inning, before taking on three more on a Conley double in the third inning.
- The Lions grabbed two runs back in the top of the fourth inning on a DeFranco single that brought home Calli Pratt and Lexi Semanchik (Flemington, N.J.).
- Springfield tacked on two more runs in the borrow half of the frame, this time on a single by Conley.
- Pratt singled in the top of the fifth, bringing home Lindsey Lowe before a Karagan Knowles (Tucson, Ariz.) sac fly, that plated Mallory Shofi (Ridgefield, Conn.) and brought the score to 4-11.
- Springfield closed out the game, taking the victory 11-4 and the sweep.
