HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set opened up with a pair of runs, first a 5 points run by the Lions to take a 9-3 lead before the Judges went on a five point run of their own to cut the score to 9-8. After another small run by the Lions to take a 17-11 lead, the Judges were able to come back and knot the score at 19 all. The teams traded two points before the Lions rattled off the last four, with Grace Tepper (Kensington, Md.) ending the set on a kill.
- The second set saw the Lions take an early five point lead at 13-8, but the Judges were able to cut the lead to 15-13 quickly. Brandeis kept the set close until the Lions rattled off four straight points to open up a six point lead at 22-16. Emerson kept the Judges at bay and closed out the set 25-18 on a pair of Carolyn Vaimoso (Torrance, Calif.) kills to end the set.
- The third set was another one of runs, where the Lions first opened up a 7-4 lead before Brandies came back and took a commanding lead of 18-12. Emerson was unable to come back in the set, with Talia Freund closing out the set for the Judges with a kill at 25-20.
- The fourth set saw Emerson respond well to the loss in the set, going on a 8-1 run after the score was knotted at 4 each. The Lions kept their eight point score throughout most of the set, with Emerson eventually closing out the set at 25-16. Vaimoso got a kill to take the serve back and earned a service ace on the final to points respectively. The Lions took the match 3-1.
