HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first set, the Lions took control early, winning nine of the first 11 points to take an early 9-2 lead. Endicott fought back to stay in the game, and eventually cut the Lions lead to three at 18-15. Emerson went on a 6-2 run from here to take a 24-17 lead and took the set on an attack error by Endicott, 25-21.
The second set sat the Gulls take a lead early, but the Lions kept the match close. Emerson kept the Endicott lead within two, eventually cutting it to one at 17-16. This time, Endicott went on a 9-2 run to close out the set and tie the score of the match 1-1.
The third set was a back and forth set, with both teams trading points and leads. Caroline Bond (Macungie, Penn.) had one of her five kills to tie the set at 17 points apiece, before Grace Tepper (Kensington, Md.)had a kill three points later to tie it at 19. Endicott rattled off 6 of the next 9 points to win the set 25-22 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the early parts of the fourth set, The Lions went on a 6-3 run to take a 10-6 lead. The Gulls were eventually able to knot the score at 11 just six points later, and the teams went back and forth for the remainder of the set. Neither side led by more than two points, with Endicott eventually winning the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.
