Lions Swept by NEWMAC Rival MIT in Doubleheader

THE BASICS

Game One Score (5 Innings): MIT 8, Emerson 0 (5 Innings)=

Game One Pitching Decision: W Ravenne Nasser (W, 8-2) l Neely Eddleston (L, 9-2)

Game Two Score: MIT 7 (13-4-1, 7-1 NEWMAC), Emerson 0 (13-7, 3-5 NEWMAC)=

Game Two Pitching Decision: W Colleen Campbell (4-1) l L Casey Tsamis (2-3)

The Lead:  MIT's pitching and hitting outdid the Lions as they fell in both games of a NEWMAC Doubleheader to the Engineers. 

GAME ONE
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Emerson was outhit 10-2 by the Engineers.
  • Ravenne Nasser pitched five shutout innings for MIT, allowing two hits and striking out one Lion.
  • Neely Eddleston (West Wareham, Mass.) took the loss, allowing ten hits, eight runs, and two walks.  She struck out two batters as well.
  • Amanda Lee and Jasmin Joseph led the Engineers with two hits a piece.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MIT used a big second inning to take a commanding lead on the Lions.
  • The Engineers scored six in the inning, topped off by a double steal which saw Katherine Shade go to second brought home Sarah Von Ahn and giving MIT a 6-0 lead.
  • MIT added on two insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth, on a Michelle Wist double.
  • Nasser closed out the game in the top of the fifth inning giving MIT the victory.

GAME TWO

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Emerson had five hits in the second game, while MIT matched it's total from the first game with 10.
  • Lindsey Lowe (Porter Ranch, Calif.) led the Lions with two hits while Jacqueline DeFusco (East Greenwich, R.I.), Alena Jones (Woodinville, Wa.), and Marisa DeFranco (Falls Church, Va.) had one a piece.
  • Casey Tsamis (Colchester, Conn.)  took the loss for her one inning of pitching while Colleen Campbell earned the victory for MIT with Amber VanHemel taking the save.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MIT used a big inning again to take a commanding lead, this time in the fourth.
  • After scoring on in the second inning, they plated six runs in the fourth inning to open up a 7-0 lead.
  • Sierra Rozenzweig came up with the bases loaded and cleared them with a double, giving MIT a 4-0 lead.
  • They tacked on three more in the inning and kept the Lions at bay, seeing out the sweep.
