Lions Sweep Second Doubleheader in as many days

The Lead: The Emerson Lions softball team continues their hot start to the season, by sweeping their second double header in two days. The Lions downed the Nittany Lions of Penn St. New Kensington and the Hornets of Baldwin-Wallace University.

GAME 1 (vs. Penn St. New Kensington)

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Erin Nolan (Clinton, N.J.)pitched four innings, allowing two hits, walkings two batters, and striking out two.
  • Neely Eddleston (Wareham, Mass.) pitched the final inning, allowing one hit snad striking out two batters.
  • Lindsey Lowe (Porter Ranch, Calif.) had three of the Lions nine hits, had three RBIs, and scored one run herself.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lions bats continued their strong start to the season.  After a quick first inning, the Lions put four on the board in the second.
  • Freshman Lindsey Lowe singled to left field to close out the inning, plating Maddie Tomich and Molly Goldstein (Ridgefield, Conn.).
  • Tomich scored a second when Alena Jones (reached first on an error in the fourth inning.
  • Lindsey Lowe had her second RBI in the fifth, knocking home Caroline Fortuna.
  • Kallisa Leonardos singled to bring home Lowe, making the score 8-0.
  • The Lions held the Nittany Lions in the bottom of the inning, signaling the end of the game. 

GAME 2 (vs. Baldwin-Wallace)

BY THE NUMBERS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The game was apitchers duel into the fifth inning, before the Lions were able to break it open.
  • Back to back doubles by Lindsey Lowe and Kallista Leonardos gave the Lions a 2-0 lead.  
  • Mackenzie Milligan doubled in the top of the sixth to cut the Lions lead to 1.
  • After Maddie Tomic scored on an error, Kallista Leonardos homered to right center, dirving in two runs.
  • The Lions clsoed the game out after the Yellow Jackets scored one more run, with a final score of 7-2.
