The Lead: Junior Mark Piorkowski (Montclair, N.J.) and Co-Captain Nick Rusk (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. ) were tied for the team lead in Kills with 11 as the Lions took down Eastern Nazarene in a 3-0 sweep on Thursday night in non-conference men's volleyball action.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Junior Win Kittivatcharapong (Bangkok, Thailand) led the Lions in kill percentage, hitting at a .583 rate in the match.
- Freshman Marcus Cepeda (Sacramento, Calif.) was dishing out assists, finishing with 26 on the night.
- Carl D'Aguiar (Tujunga, CA) and Nick Rusk did the dirty work, grabbing 11 and 10 digs respectively.
- Eastern Nazarene was led in attack and defense by Kenny Sorensen who had nine of the teams 26 total kills and had 12 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE
- The teams went back and forth to start the match, findind themselves tied up at 19 a piece.
- After Emerson grabbed the lead at 20-19, they did not allow another point, finishing the set on an attack error by Eastern Nazarene.
SET TWO
- Emerson jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead, before Eastern Nazarene stormed back to tie the set at seven all.
- Eastern Nazarene used the momentum to open up a three point lead at 16-13.
- Emerson fought back, and the Lions were able to knot the set up at 20-20, before rattling off five straight points to win the set, finished off with a kill by Freshman Samuel Willinger (Golden Beach, Fla).
SET THREE
- Emerson's momentum carried into the third set, as they a grabbed a quick 10-4 lead to start the set.
- Eastern Nazarene continued to battle, cutting the lead to four at 13-9.
- Emerson quickly regained their large lead, moving the score to 21-14 on a kill by Win Kittivatcharapong.
- The set ended in favor of emerson with a kill by Mark Piorkowski, assited by Carl D'Aguiar.

- Emerson is off until Tuesday, February 13th, when they welcome Endicott College to the Brown & Plofker Gym at 7:00pm.
