Women's Volleyball Tripped Up By Raiders

THE BASICS 

Score: Rivier 3, Emerson 1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-20)

Records: Emerson Lions (13-11, 2-6 NEWMAC) ; Rivier Raiders (19-6,8-1 GNAC)

Location: Nashua, N.H. (Muldoon Gymnasium) 

Date: Tuesday October 16th, 2018 

The Lead: Kelley Guerra's team leading 10 kills was not enough as the Lions fell to the Raiders of Rivier University in four sets. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • On the offensive end, Emerson was led by Kelley Guerra (Randolph, N.J.) , who tallied 10 kills on 19 total attacks, and Moria Brennan who assisted on 34 of Emerson's 30 kills.
  • Grace Tepper (Kensington, Md.) and Albany Alexander (Orlando, Fla.) added eight and six kills respectively.  
  • Lauren Quan (San Diego, Calif.) and Tepper led the Lions in digs.  Quan totaled 16 and Tepper added 15 to her 8 kills.
  • Courtney Collins led the Raiders with 14 kills while Avery Pollard added 10.  
  • Hayley Macken made the offense run with 44 assists on 53 total kills for Rivier.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emerson jumped out to the early lead in the first set.  They opened up the match with a 5-1 run, headlined by two service aces by Brennan.
  • Rivier clawed back in the first set to make the game close, but Emerson opened up an 18-10 lead in the set.  The Raiders fought back but the Lions closed out the set 25-20.
  • In the second set, Emerson and Rivier traded points to open up the frame knotted at 9. 
  • Rivier followed it up with an 11 to 4 run to open up a 20-13 run.  Emerson grabbed three more points in the set and fell 25-16.
  • Rivier continued their hot streak into the third set, winning 14 of the first 20 points.  Emerson fought back and closed the lead to 6 at 21-15. 
  • The Raiders closed out the set on a 4-3 run and won 25-18.
  • The Lions jumped out to a lead in the fourth set, winning 8-4 after twelve points played.
  • Rivier fought back and knotted the score at 12.  The teams traded points and stayed knotted until 17-17.
  • Rivier pulled away and won the match with a final score of 25-21 in the fourth set.
