Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NEW YORK, New York - A combined two-match total of 24 kills and 27 digs from sophomore Fara Cohen (Morristown, N.J.) and 22 kills and 26 digs from freshman Bella Edwards (Palisades, Calif.) paced the Emerson College women's volleyball team to two season-opening victories at the NYU Labor Day Invitational on Friday night. The Lions took a 3-1 first match victory over Ramapo followed by a 3-1 triumph over Keene State.

EMERSON 3, Ramapo 1

The Lions hit for an impressive .407 to take the opening set with a score of 25-12 and registered a match-high .571 attack percentage to cruise to a 25-17 second set win.

Despite a .167 team kill percentage in the third set, Ramapo did not go away quietly and took the 25-18 third set to put the score at 2-1. The fourth set saw the two teams battle back and forth with the score differential never going over four, but it was Emerson who came away with the tight 25-23 win to take the first match of the night, 3-1.

Edwards led the Purple & Yellow with 14 kills in her collegiate debut, while Cohen had 11 kills, two service aces and 17 kills. Senior Annie Hall (Okemos, Mich.) had eight kills and four blocks, sophomore Moira Brennan (Glenview, Illi.) had 40 set assists and two blocks, senior Amanda Linzmeyer (Huntington Beach, Calif.) had 12 digs, sophomore Kelley Guerra (Randolph, N.J.) three blocks and seven kills and senior Jules Augustine (Skaneateles, N.Y.) recorded seven kills.

EMERSON 3, Keene St. 1

Edwards added 15 digs and Cohen had 13 kills, 10 digs and five service aces to lift the Lions to their second win of the night. Both Keene and Emerson kept the opening set close, but it was Emerson who came out on top by a score of 26-24 and grabbed a 25-23 second frame win to take the 2-0 lead.

Keene took advantage of Emerson's match-low of .047 and cut into the lead with a 25-23 third set victory. The Lions bounced back from its third set loss and had a set-high kill percentage of .458 to cruise to a 25-17 fourth frame win over the Owls to complete a two-match sweep.

Junior Sam Horton (Cartersville, Geor.) registered 17 digs, while Hall and Edwards each recorded eight kills. Brennan had 47 helpers with Guerra blocking two shots as Augustine blocked four.

Emerson takes on Hunter (12:30) and Skidmore (2:30) tomorrow to conclude tournament action.
