Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass - It was a beautiful day at Rotch Field and a great day to be a Lion as Emerson Softball swept the Coast Guard Academy Bears, 12-1 and 12-11.
Emerson Softball rises to 11-23 overall and 3-13 in the NEWMAC. Coast Guard drops to 9-29 overall and 2-14 in conference play.
The Lions held a commanding lead in the first game of the day, ending it in 5 innings thanks to huge hits by Molly Goldstein and Amanda Horton. In addition Kodie Cash and Kallista Leonardos hit home runs to drive in multiple runs.
In the second game the Lions were down two runs going into the bottom of the 7th, but Jillian Gearin hit a double to score Goldstein and Leonardos to take it into extra innings. Coast Guard scored 1 run in the top of the 8th, but Lions pitcher Cash was able to close out the inning with just that single run.
In the bottom of the 8th, Cash hit a single to score Courtney Fee to tie it up once again. With only 1 out, Leonardos hit a big single to right field which scored Shelby Carney to win the game for the Lions.
The Lions return to action tomorrow for their Senior Day when they host Clark University for another doubleheader. Opening pitch at 3:00pm.
