BOSTON, Mass - It was Senior Day for the Lions as Emerson hosted Wentworth in GNAC Men's Volleyball action. Despite a strong fight from the Lions and and huge efforts from the five graduating seniors, the Wentworth Leopards were able to stay ahead and closed the match 3-0. The Lions got closer each set with scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-20.
The Lions drop to 9-15 overall and 5-9 in conference, while Wentworth rises to 20-8 and 12-2 in the GNAC, where they remain the top team.
The Lions honored five graduating seniors today who have all contributed greatly to the success of the program. Brendan McGonigle, Jackson Wiley, Ben Hillman, Jared Gross and Austin Pinckney will finish up their collegiate careers next week as they head to the GNAC playoffs.
Leading for the Lions was Nick Rusk and Wiley, with 9 and 8 kills respectively. McGonigle lead in assists with 26, and digs with 8. Gross was right behind with 7 digs and an assist. Showing his versatility, Hillman contributed 2 assists and 3 digs off some big swings by the Leopards. Rounding out the offense was Win Kittivatcharapong who had 6 kills and 2 aces.
Stat leaders for Wentworth include Jon Roat with 13 kills, an ace, and a block assist. Right behind him was Sean Mullen with 11 kills and 4 aces. Mike Rogachefsky lead the match in digs with 11, he also contributed an assist. Jake Reed and Alex Potts had a solo block each and a combined 5 block assists. Kevin McPeek had a match high 33 assists.
Both teams return to action next week for the GNAC playoffs. Final schedule details TBA.
