BOSTON, Mass - Men's Volleyball put up a tough fight against the visiting Rivier University Raiders, but ultimately were unable to gain the edge as the Raiders swept the match in three sets with final scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-19. With the loss the Lions drop to 7-10 overall and 3-4 in the GNAC. The Raiders rise to 14-9 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
In both the first and second sets both teams stayed relatively close for the first fifteen points or so, before the Raiders pulled ahead to win them both.
In the third set the Lions opened up with a 3-0 lead before the Raiders got on the board. The Lions maintained a slight lead early in the set but again were unable to stay ahead as the Raiders retook the lead. With the score at 23-15, the Lions went on a small run to bring the score up 24-19. The final point of the math came off a Kill by Rivier's Grant Andler, assist from Tyler Blank.
Stat leaders for the Raiders include Mike Hadder and Andler with 10 kills each. Nick Ochoa and garrett Bucklin lead the team in digs with 7 each, and leading in assists was Blank with 30.
Leading for the Lions was Jackson Wiley with 8 kills and 3 digs. Leading in digs was Jared Gross with 5 total. He was lead closely by Mark Piorkowski who had 6 kills and 4 digs. Rounding out the Lions offense was Nick Rusk with 22 assists and 2 digs.
The Lions return to action on Saturday when they host Albertus Magnus and Emmanuel for two more GNAC matchups. Opening match against Albertus at 11:00am
