PROVIDENCE, RI - The Lions split their GNAC tr-match on Saturday at the Wildcat Center, taking the first match against the Emmanuel Saints, 3-1. In their second meeting of the year against Johnson & Wales, Emerson Men's Volleyball fell to the hosting Wildcats, 0-3. The Lions are now 5-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The first match of the day saw the Lions overtake Emmanuel, with Emerson taking the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-20. The Saints came back in the third set winning 27-25, but the Lions closed it out in the fourth 25-22. Jackson Wiley lead the Lions with 15 kills and 7 digs. Mark Piorkowski followed with 13 kills, 6 digs, and a block assist. Jared Gross lead the team in digs with 13, and Brendan McGonigle had 46 assists, 12 digs, and 4 block assists.
In the second match of the day the Lions fought hard against the Wildcats, but couldn't stop the momentum they gained in the first set. Emerson and JWU traded points early in the first set, but after the Wildcats went on a run to win the set, they went on to open both the second and third set with big leads. The sets ended 25-16, 25-14, 25-16.
Jackson Wiley earned his 1000th kill today and now has 1001 career kills.
The Lions return to action on March 1st when they travel to Regis for 6:00pm match.
