BOSTON, Mass - It was a tough loss for the Lions on Senior Day as they hosted the MIT Engineers. Despite a fairly even game, MIT was able to pull ahead in the second half with a final score of 67-49. With the loss the Lions drop to 10-14 overall and 5-8 in the NEWMAC. The Engineers rise to 19-5 overall and 10-3 in conference play.
The game started off slow with only 1 point on the board, a free throw by Emerson Sean Duffy, for almost 2 minutes. MIT got into the game with a three pointer by Cameron Korb to take the lead. Both teams traded points and fouls, with MIT leading at the half 30-26.
In the second half MIT went on a run, extending their lead to 10 points. But the Lions responded with layups by Austin Pinckney and Tyson Hallowell, 38-32. The Engineers quickly struck back to stretch out their lead yet again thanks to baskets by Ryan Frankel and Bradley Jomard. The Lions continued to get within striking distance, only for MIT to go on a run and shake them off.
With just over a minute Duffy hit another 3 pointer for the Lions, but sadly it wasn't enough as the Engineers closed out the game 67-49.
Stat leaders for MIT include Frankel with 20 points and 5 assists. he was followed closely by Jomard who had 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots. Lampros Tsontzos also had 9 rebounds and contributed 7 points.
Leading for the Lions was Duffy with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Pinckney was right behind him with 7 points and 7 rebounds. Michael Thorpe contributed 9 points, and rounding out the offense was Hallowell and Brian Hurley with 8 points each.
Next up for MIT is a home game against Babson on February 20th at 2:00pm. The Lions return to action on the 20th as well when they travel to Wheaton for a 1:00pm game.
