Box Score FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - A corner kick headed into the back of the net by Framingham State senior Jeffrey Braverman (Framingham, Mass.) in the 68th minute of regulation decided the Emerson men's soccer team's fate as they took the 1-0 loss on Tuesday night in non-conference action.
Emerson slips down to 4-9 with the setback as Framingham State moves to 7-8.
Senior keeper Lucas Fischer (Atlanta, Ga.) was tagged with the loss and made seven stops in 90 minutes between the pipes for Emerson. Junior Josh Arno (Natick, Mass.) earned the win for Framingham State and had four saves.
Seniors Samir Beria (Sterling, Va.) and Duncan Bochicchio (Los Angeles, Calif.) and freshman Gavin Faucette (Oakland, Calif.) had two shots each for Emerson. Braverman paced the Rams with a goal, while sophomore Ken Stahovish (Springfield, Mass.) tallied an assist and six shots.
Framingham State held the 10-6 shot advantage over Emerson as each team were unable to find the back of the net through the first half of play. The Rams nearly broke the scoreless contest a minute into the second half with the ball was deflected off the crossbar and later had a rebound blocked.
The Rams got on the board in the 68th minute off a corner kick from Stahovish that Braverman headed past the reach of Fischer and went up 1-0 with a little over 20 minutes left on the clock. Emerson had a chance to square up the score on a free kick opportunity, but the shot was blocked by a wall of Rams defenders. Framingham missed a chance for an insurance goal in the 86th minute on a shot by sophomore Simon Appiah (Worcester, Mass.), but Fischer dove and held the 1-0 score.
Emerson and Framingham State each return to the field on Saturday afternoon. The Lions head back to Rotch to host Clark in its senior game slated for a 1:00 p.m. start, while the Rams host Mass. Maritime at 11:00 a.m.
