Men's Soccer Falls 5-1 To Wheaton (Mass.)

Box Score

NORTON, Mass. - The Emerson men's soccer team's two game winning streak was snapped on Saturday afternoon after Wheaton (Mass.) powered out four second half goals to guide the Lyons past the Lions, 5-1, at Keefe Field in NEWMAC action.

Wheaton moves up to 9-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in NEWMAC action with the win, while Emerson falls to 4-8 overall and 1-4 against NEWMAC teams.

Junior keeper Lucas Fischer (Atlanta, Ga.) shouldered the loss and had seven saves through 90 minutes, while Wheaton junior goalie Erik Wisniewski (Salisbury, Mass.) was credited with the win and made one save. Freshman Gavin Faucette (Oakland, Calif.) led the Lions with a goal and three shots, while senior Kevin Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) paced Wheaton with two goals and four shots.

Faucette put the Lions on top 1-0 after he tallied an unassisted net in the 20th minute. Faucette collected a pass from the right of the box and deposited the ball into the right side. Wheaton evened the score at 1-all 14 minutes after Emerson got on the board. On a cross pass from the left to the far left post by freshman Brady Smith (Medway, Mass.), Davis headed the ball past Fischer. The Lyons outshot the Lions, 11-1, through the first half.

Wheaton netted four goals in the second half and started its scoring spree in the 66th minute on an unassisted net by freshman Roni Diniz (Brockton, Mass.) and took the 2-1 lead. The Lions went up two after Davis tallied his second net of the game from the center of the box off a deflection. Sesay broke away down the center and beat off the last Lions defender to pull ahead by three at 4-1 as the last Wheaton goal came on an own goal to seal the 5-1 victory for the Lyons.

Emerson continues its road slate at Framingham State on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., while Wheaton travels to Coast Guard next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
