Men's Soccer Falls to Springfield

Boston, Mass. - September 26, 2015 - Junior forward Luke Alvaro (Somers, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Alex Haji (Shrewsbury, Mass.)each tallied one goal apiece, as the Springfield College men's soccer program defeated Emerson College on Saturday afternoon, 2-0.

With the win, Springfield continues its best start in Division III program history, as it is now 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Emerson falls to 2-6 on the season, adn 0-2 in league play.

Senior goalkeeper Billy Schmid (Wethersfield, Conn.) continued his exceptional play between the pipes, as he posted his sixth shutout of the season, registering one stop on the afternoon, while his counterpart, Carter Bowers (Gorham, Maine) finished the game with 12 saves. Springfield out shot Emerson, 21-2 over the course of 90 minutes, and held a 1-0 margin in corner kicks.

The Pride opened the game's scoring just 7:37 into the contest, when sophomore defender Douglas Enga (Syosset, N.Y.) found Alvaro, who pumped home his team-leading eight goal of the season to give the Pride a 1-0 lead over the Lions.

Springfield would add some insurance with 18:34 remaining in the first stanza, when Haji found the back of the net for the first time in his career to put the Pride up 2-0, a lead that Springfield would hold for the remainder of the contest.
