BOSTON, Mass - With the Sun beginning to set over Rotch Field, the Emerson Lions stepped onto the turf to face our cross river rivals in Cambridge, the MIT Engineers. Although the Lions played an aggressive game, MIT took the win, 5-0, as their record raised to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Lions fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.
Kareem Itani opened the day for the Engineers with a goal in the 10th minute, assisted by Sean Bingham, who would go on to score the next two goals unassisted. The first half ended with MIT standing 3-0 over the Lions. Starting keep for the Lions was Carter Bowers who made 13 saves on 16 shots.
Lucas Fisher took over for the Lions in the second half and made 8 saves on 10 shots. John Kramer scored the 4th goal for MIT in the 56th minute, unassisted. The final goal for MIT was a 40 yard laser by Joseph Han that hit the top corner, just out of reach of the Fisher. It was impressive shot to say the least, rising the final score to 5-0.
Defending the goal for MIT was Jake Amereno who played the full 90. Emerson had only 6 shots on goal, compared to MITs 26.
The Lions next matchup is at home against Mount Ida on September 23rd at 6:00pm.
