Box Score BOSTON—The Emerson College Softball team rebounded from a four-game losing streak to down the visiting Lesley University Lynx, 8-0 in six innings in a non-conference game Monday night at Rotch Field.
With the win, Emerson improves to 8-12 overall, while Lesley slumps to 2-8 on the season.
It was a big day at the plate for first baseman Jill Gearin, as the freshman smacked a pair of doubles and one triple in her 3-for-4 effort at the dish with one RBI and one run scored.
The Lions got off to an early lead with an RBI single off the bat of freshman third baseman Lyndi McIntyre to plate junior second baseman Courtney Fee, this put EC up 1-0 after one inning of play.
A four-run third inning kept the Lions on the prowl as a two-out, two-RBI double from right fielder Shelby Carney prolonged the inning.
Freshman catcher Allie Martinez followed up Carney's double in the third with a two-RBI single of her own, as she finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base and one walk. Martinez drove in the game-ending run on a single in the sixth to give Emerson an 8-0 mercy rule victory.
Freshman shortstop Jackie DeFusco collected a trio of singles to go with one RBI and one run scored as Emerson tallied 14 hits in the game, their most in a single game this season.
Freshman pitcher Alexis Ellis-Alvarez was nearly perfect in the circle for the Lions as she tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out three in five innings of play to earn her second win of the season.
Ellis-Alvarez was throwing a perfect game until Mekenzi Golden's double came with two outs in the third inning.
Jordan Thomas was tagged with the loss for Lesley as she gave up five runs on eight hits, walked five and struck out one in three innings of work.
The Lions will return to NEWMAC doubleheader action Tuesday, April 8 on the road against the Wellesley College Blue. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. for a pair of games rescheduled from March 18.
