BOSTON, MA - It was a good day on the court for the Emerson Lions, who defeated the visiting Mount Ida Mustangs 3-1. 

Emerson's Nick Rusk and Connor Burton dominated on the hardwood; each putting up 16 and 11 kills respectively. These were made possible by the touch of Brendan McGonigle, who posted 40 assists for the day. Emerson truly shined in their consistency, making only 17 errors to Mount Ida's 30, showing us that a fundamentally sound match is a winning match.

The first set started even, but the Lions quickly pulled away, boasting a 4-9 lead early on. Emerson continued to further this gap, bringing the first set to a decisive 25-17 victory. The second set went much the same, with Emerson pulling ahead by as much as 9 after Connor Burton had 7 points in a row, the last being a service ace. Emerson won the second set 25-14.

The third set showed a new Mount Ida, who came out firing and quickly pulled ahead 4-1. The Lions fought to regain momentum and pulled ahead multiple times; but never by more than 2. Mount Ida's James Ames had 6 of his 13 kills during this set, and Peter Griffenkranz had 8 of his 12. Their court presence was too much and brought the set to a 28-26 loss for the Lions.

The final set brought us back the Lions from the first two. They pulled ahead quickly, and stayed ahead until the end, winning the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.

This victory over Mount Ida puts the Lions at 12-10 overall, and 4-7 in the GNAC; while the Mustangs drop to 5-19 overall and 0-11 in conference play.

The Lions hope to bring this momentum into their next away game against Lasell at 7:00pm on Thursday, April 2nd.
