The Emerson Men's Volleyball Team swept Newbury College 3-0, before falling 3-0 to the MIT Engineers Saturday afternoon in a non-conference tri-match hosted by MIT. With the split, the Lions move to 3-4 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

In the match versus Newbury (1-5), the Lions came out swinging, downing the Nighthawks by scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-20.

EC racked up 44 kills in the match, as junior outside hitter Jackson Wiley slammed 16 kills and senior middle blocker Connor Burton swung .733, good for 11 kills. Freshman outside hitter Nick Rusk bailed out the Lions with 10 digs, as teammates Wiley and junior libero Jared Gross chipped in nine and seven digs respectively.

In set one, the Lions led just once at 2-1 and rallied from their biggest deficit down 11-7, to come back to tie it eight times before taking the lead 24-23 on Newbury out of rotation. Ben Hillman slammed the winning kill to give the Lions a gritty 25-23 come-from-behind win to go up 1-0 on Newbury.

In set two, it was a back and forth affair early on until EC went took a 10-9 and never look backed as a seven-point advantage proved to be the difference in a 25-18 win to take a 2-0 lead. Burton had five kills and Wiley added four more.

In the final set, it was close until the Lions went on a 4-0 run to make it 14-9, and then led by as much as eight, twice, at 20-12 and 23-15 as the Lions busted out the brooms with a final 25-20 victory in the third set.

Chi Yin li paced the Nighthawks with 14 kills and 11 digs, and a team-best .370 attack percentage in the game.
