In game two of the tri-march up against the host No. 12 MIT Engineers (7-1), Emerson fell 25-18, 25-23, and 25-15 to earn a split on the afternoon. This was the Lions' second meeting with MIT this season, as EC lost 3-1 to open the season on Jan. 23.
In set one, the Lions led 1-0 then fell behind for the rest of the way. MIT forced 10 Emerson errors to go with 12 kills. Junior outside hitter Jackson Wiley had five of the Lions' nine kills. It was as close as 18-22 down the stretch, but MIT shut the door, taking the first set 25-18.
In set two, the Lions led early until MIT tied it at 13-all. The Lions led again late before a 21-all tie by senior Alex Klein put the Lions away for good. Klein led MIT with 14 kills in the match.
In the final set, the Engineers went on two 5-0 runs to go up 9-3 and then 16-7 before closing it out 25-15 to sweep the Lions.
Junior outside hitter Jackson Wiley had 15 kills for Emerson in the defeat.
