The Emerson Lions Men's Volleyball Team kicked off their 2015 GNAC campaign Tuesday night by downing the Mt. Ida Mustangs on the road in three straight sets: 25-20, 25-18, 25-10.
With the win, the Lions improve to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the GNAC, while Mt. Ida falls to 1-5, 0-1 in conference play.
Emerson now has back-to-back 3-0 sweeps to their name.
The first set featured a back and forth affair early on until the Lions were able to pull away for good, going up 19-15, their first large lead in the set. Strong play by senior middle blocker Connor Burton helped force 11 errors for the Mustangs, as Emerson took the first set 25-20.
Next up, there were five ties in Set Two, but 12 kills helped the Lions take it 25-18. With Burton serving, the Lions went on a 5-0 run to all but seal the set.
Emerson finished it off with a 25-10 romp in the third as a 7-0 run ended the match.
Burton finished with 10 kills, two blocks and swung a nasty .714 on the day.
Junior outside hitter Jackson Wiley added 10 kills.
James Ames led Mt. Ida with nine kills, while Jimmy Wessel had a game-leading 12 digs.
The Lions return to action this Thursday, Feb. 5 at 6:00 p.m. as they play host to Wentworth.
