Lions Fall to Johnson & Wales Wildcats

Emerson Men's Volleyball was defeated today 3-0 in their match against the Johnson & Wales Wildcats. The Lion's record is now 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the NEWMAC. Johnson & Wales improved their record to 13-4 overall, now 3-2 in the GNAC.

The first set ended with a score of 25-17, Johnson and Wales on top. Emerson started out the set with a 4 point lead. This lead was quickly ended though when JWU player, Ryan Kennedy, put up four points in a row to quickly bring the team back into the game.

Emerson closed the gap in the second set, which ended with a final score of 25-23. Emerson held the lead for the beginning of the set raising the score up to 10-5. However, the Wildcats fought back putting up 13 points in the time Emerson could only put up one point, raising the score to 18-11.

The Lion's remained very competitive in the third set. The biggest lead of the set was only by four points. The score went back and forth pretty evenly and finished at 25-21, Johnson and Wales.

Johnson and Wales player, Ryan Kennedy, led the game in kills with 13 overall. Emerson, junior, Jackson Wiley, was in second with 10 kills overall.

Although Johnson and Wales led the game in digs 36-31, Emerson junior, Jared Gross, had a great game having performed 11 digs, the highest amount of the match.

The Lions next match will be a tri-match held at Rivier College on February 28th, against both Rivier and Daniel Webster College. The games are at 11:00am (Rivier) and 1:00pm ( Daniel Webster.)
