20 Point Game from Thorpe Not Enough Against MIT

The Lions fell to 2nd Place MIT tonight despite a 20 point game from Emerson's Michael Thorpe.

The first half started slow with the score in the single digits until a 3 point shot from Lions Senior Eli Kell-Abrams grabbed Emerson the lead with a score of 10-9. MIT was quiet save a couple of free throws while Emerson scored four 3 pointers. Until MIT's Tim Butala sank a jump shot, followed by a layup and a free throw by Ryan Frankel. The half ended with Emerson leading 25-22.

The second half was a tougher contest with Emerson barely holding the leading despite efforts from lead scorers Thorpe and Sean Duffy. With 7:25 left on the clock Matt Redfield of MIT is fouled making a shot, and MIT takes the lead with a score of 51-50. After this the Lions briefly held the lead again but ultimately weren't able to bring it home. Final Score 68-59.

The Lions are now 10-13 overall and 4-9 in conference play, tieing them for 5th place with Clark. MIT rises to 17-6 overall and 10-3 in the NEWMAC.


The Emerson Men play next at Home against Wheaton on Feb 21st, Game set for 1:00pm.
