BOSTON, Mass - It was a tough loss for Emerson Men's Basketball as they hosted visiting Amherst College. Despite an early lead by the Lions, Amherst regained control of the game with a final score of 99-74. With the loss Emerson drops to 3-5 overall while Amherst remains undefeated at 5-0.
The first half saw Emerson jump out to an early lead thanks to multiple baskets by freshman Geoffrey Gray. Amherst responded and took the lead off a layup by Eric Conklin. This started a run as they extended their lead to 24-9 before Emerson's Austin Pinckney made a layup, followed by a 3 pointer and 2 free throws by Mike Carbone to bring the score up 24-16. Amherst's Johnny McCarthy ended the short lived Emerson run with a 3 pointer of his own. Both teams traded baskets but Amherst extended their lead with the first half ending 43-33.
In the second half Amherst came out firing as they extended their lead to 57-33 before Tyson Hallowell was fouled and made 2 free throws for the Lions, raising the score 57-35. Amherst continued to extend their lead including a dunk by David George to increase their lead further with the score at 64-40. The Lions refused to give up the fight, but Amherst's lead proved to be too much with a final score of 99-74.
Stat leaders for Amherst include Connor Green and George with 16 points each. Leading in rebounds was Jayde Dawson with 8 total. Jeff Racy had 14 points and was 4-4 on three point attempts.
Leading for the Lions was Hallowell with 20 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Pinckney lead with 5 rebounds, followed closely by Gray and Sean Duffy who both had 4. John Geary had 11 points and was 3-6 on three point shots.
Next up for Amherst is a road game vs Brandeis on Dec 8th at 7:00pm. The Lions also return to action on the Tuesday the 8th as they host UMass Boston at 7:00pm.
