Lions Fall to Gators, 90-84

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass - It was a game that came down to the wire but the Gators were able to secure the day over the Lions with a final score of 90-84. With the loss Emerson Men's Basektball drops to 3-4 overall.

The game started off evenly played with Pine Manor jumping out to an early lead 9-6 until Emerson responded with a run of their own giving them a 29-21 lead within the first 10 minutes.

Emerson seized control the rest of the first half giving them the lead entering halftime 53-39. The Lions were led at the break by Sean Duffy's 14 points and Austin Pinckney contributed 11. The Gators were led by Chancie Williams who tallied 12 along with Curtis Hyman's 9 points to go with Taverick Roberson's 8.

At the start of the second half the Gators began chipping away at the lead cutting it to 59-53 within the first five minutes. At the 10 minute mark Roberson connected on a three to give the Lions a 60-65 lead.

With 6:00 remaining in the game the Gators regained their first lead since the first five minutes as Williams finished a put back layup giving the home team a 74-72. As each team traded baskets Williams then connected on the rare four point play to give the Gators a 80-75 lead.

The lead was short lived as the Lions roared right back as Duffy connected on 1 of 2 free throws to give Emerson a one point lead. Each team battled their way to an 83-83 game with 2:28 left.

As the teams traded baskets once more Roberson gave the Gators the lead for good as he connected on a layup with 53.1 seconds. Hyman sealed the deal down the stretch going 5-6 from the line in the final seconds leading the Gators to a 90-84 victory.

The Lions were led by Duffy's 20 points as Austin Pinckney notched a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds and Michael Sheng's 12 points.

The Gator's got a big boost from Chancie Williams as he topped his previous season high with 29 points shooting a scorching 8-13 from distance and a team high 5 assists, Curtis Hyman finished with 23 points and tied Ellis Reid with a team high 6 rebounds as Tank Roberson tallied 18 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists.


The Gators now improved to 5-2 on the season as they travel on December 3rd to visit Daniel Webster with a 7:30 PM tip-off. The Lions next matchup is this Saturday, Dec 5th, when they host Amherst at 1:00pm.
