BOSTON, Mass - It was a windy and rain soaked night at Rotch Field, as Emerson Men's Soccer hosted the Rivier University Raiders for their last home match of the season. The Raiders walked away with the win, bringing their record up to 3-11-1, while remaining 1-7-1 in the GNAC. The Emerson Lions fall to 5-12 overall, staying 0-6 in the NEWMAC.
The first half saw both sides battling back and forth, but neither side could find the back of the net. The Lions put multiple shots on net, but the Raiders keeper, Anthony Capozzi, stopped them all. He ended the night with 12 saves. Rivier only managed 1 shot on goal in the first half, which Emerson's Carter Bowers stopped with ease. Bowers ended the night with 3 saves on 4 shots.
In the second half the rain intensified, as did the pace of play. The Lions put several more shots on net, and the Raiders managed a few more as well. In the 78th minute, Emerson didn't keep enough defenders back, which opened the field for Raiders Harley Kearney to score a breakaway goal. This would end up being the only and final goal of the game, 1-0.
The Lions have their final match of the season on the road against Babson College on Saturday, October 31st at 1:00pm.
