Box Score
Tonight the Emerson Lions fell to Springfield on the road, 85-60. The first half of the game was close, with both teams making the same amount of shots from the field. Forward Austin Pinckney stepped up on both sides of the ball, making Emerson's only three pointer on his way to 11 points in the half, along with two steals and a block. His contributions supported an otherwise cold starting lineup, and kept the game close through the first twenty minutes. However, the area where Springfield separated themselves from the Lions was free-throws; scoring 9 extra points from the charity stripe, compared to Emerson's 4.
However, despite a close first half, when play resumed Springfield began to run away with it. They came alive from deep, nailing 5 out of their 9 three-point attempts, and their bench stepped up big time. Most notably Josh Altman caught fire in the second half, scoring 10 points in only 10 minutes of action. Emerson's starters picked up their game, with Michael Thorpe and Pinckney chipping in 9 points each and Eli Kell-Abrams with two steals, but their bench only scored a total of 8 points. That lack of depth was what undid the Lions; while Springfield could afford to spread the minutes around.
Austin Pinckney had a great night overall, leading all scorers with 20 points to go along with 8 rebounds, two steals and a block.
The Lions play next at Babson on Saturday (1/31), game set for 3:00pm.
