Goldberg Shines In Tough Loss To MIT

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – A phenomenal 21 point effort by Jon Goldberg wasn't enough to tow the line Wednesday night as the Emerson Men's Basketball Team fell in a tough 80-61 loss to the MIT Engineers. Emerson now holds at 13-11 overall and 6-7 in conference play while MIT improves to 17-7 on the year and 8-5 in the NEWMAC.

The first half saw the Lions start out strong with Goldberg dropping three of his 12 points in the half in the first shot of the game. The Engineers paced themselves though, running the offense to a 65% team shooting percentage as Matt Redfield and Ryan Frankel both put up 14 each in the half. Michael Thorpe chipped in with nine points as well as three assists in the half to send the Lions into the half break down 43-29.

MIT kept the pace up in the second half as well, edging away from the Lions with seven different Engineers putting up points in the half. Jon Goldberg led the way again with nine points, this time with Tyson Hallowell right behind him with eight. Fouls were a crux in the Lions game plan though as they racked up 18 of them to give MIT 24 free throws, 19 of which they converted as they ran off with a 80-61 final.

The Lions will travel to Wheaton this Saturday in the final regular season game of the year with a 1 p.m. tip-off against the Lyons. MIT will close out their regular season hosting Babson this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
