Second Half Effort Falls Short In Basketball's Overtime Loss To Fisher

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – Michael Thorpe exploded for 16 points in the second half as the Emerson Men's Basketball Team fell in a heartbreaking 79-77 overtime loss to the Fisher Falcons. The Lions are now 2-3 on the year as Fisher improves to 4-2.

The Falcons came out hot on the night as they shot 52% in the half with Jameel Yousif coming off the bench to drop eight to lead FC. The Lions struggled to click on offense in the half, shooting only 31% with Austin Pickney and Tyson Hallowell both put up seven to lead Emerson. Turnovers hurt the Lions as well as Fisher turned five of them into eight points to lead the game 37-30 at the break.

The Lions came alive in the second half though, with Michael Thorpe taking control as he unleashed for 16 points and five assists on the Falcons while Austin Pickney fired up for seven points and five rebounds to pull EC neck-and-neck with FC.

Points in the paint would make the difference in the half as well with Emerson dropping 20 as well as adding eight fast break points as both teams battled back and forth. In the end free throws made the difference for the Lions as they went 6-for-8 from the line to knot it at 70-70 and send it to OT.

Overtime saw the Lions put up a phenomenal 60% in shots with O.J. Moore leading the floor with four points. Austin Pickney threw down for three points as well, but it came down to the last seconds and last shot of the game that Ira Haywood put up driving down the paint as time expired to finish the 79-77 win.

The Lions return to action this Friday as they travel to Hartford for a 7 p.m. game in Hartford, Conn.
