Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Michael Thorpe and Austin Pickney unleashed for 16 points apiece Saturday night as the Emerson Men's Basketball Team lit up for a 64-48 win over Wentworth in the opening round of the Saints Greater Boston Classic. The Lions open up 1-0 on the season as WIT drops to 0-1.
The first half saw Austin Pickney go off the chain as he dropped 13 points on the Leopards going a perfect 6-for-6. Michael Thorpe stepped up for 10 points as well, but Eli Kell-Abrams was the conductor in the half with six assists and three steals as the Lions shot the lights out with a 58% average on the floor as a team to head into the half up 35-25.
The second half saw the Leopards surge at first, but the Emerson post men did the work as Ryan Clinesmith and John Geary both dropped in 10 points. Clinesmith shot .500 in the half while Kell-Abrams added three more assists as well as snaking four steals as the Lions easily closed out the 64-48 win.
Emerson will fire up to compete in the Championship Game of the Saints Greater Boston Classic against Regis tomorrow night. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Boston, Mass.
