Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass. – Amanda Linzmeyer's 25 kills coupled with phenomenal serving for 13 aces on the day led the way to two wins for the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team as they swept the Salem State Vikings and the Keene State Owls Saturday. With the wins the Lions improve to 12-7 on the year with seven of them coming as sweeps.
The first match of the day saw EC take on the Salem State Vikings where they rolled out a .300 attack average to spread the offense with six different Lions flooring kills in the set. A team block and two aces for Elaine Nichols helped Emerson breeze past SSU 25-12.
Set two was more of a battle royale with 10 tie scores and five lead changes pushing EC to the limit. Jules Augustine and Amanda Linzmeyer were unstoppable though with six kills each to take the 26-24 win. Set three saw the Lions get back to their dominant ways though as they ripped a .500 average as a team, this time with Katerina Salgado playing the hero with five kills as Emerson finished the sweep 25-11.
The second match of the day saw the Lions take on Keene State where EC looked in control in set one with six more kills from Linzmeyer for a .429 average as the Lions took a 25-21 win to open it up. The Owls scrapped back in the second set though as they led the way through most of the set, putting EC against the wall with a 24-19 lead before Jessica Hamilton's service game and vicious swings by Linzmeyer and Augustine saw Emerson storm back for seven straight points to take the 26-24 win.
The third set would be a close one again, but EC remained in control through most of it though as Salgado lit up again for four kills to throw off the Owls while Elaine Nichols led the offense with nine assists as Emerson closed out the second sweep of the day with a 25-22 win.
The Lions hit the home court again this week as they set to resume NEWMAC play with a match versus Wheaton on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Boston, Mass.
