Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – While the Lions kept on the heels of WPI in shots taken on the day, the Emerson Men's Soccer Team was unable to hold off the Engineers Saturday afternoon falling 5-0 to the visiting squad. The Lions are now 2-5-3 on the year and 0-3 in conference play while WPI moves to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in NEWMAC action.
The first half saw Carter Bowers step up for four saves, but WPI fired up to put up eight shots to EC's three. The Engineers hit the scoreboard about six minutes into the game as Tynan MacLeod was fed a ball by Chris Murray for a breakaway to make it 1-0. WPI struck again only a few minutes later as well though, this time with Brien Hard setting up Sam Russell for a long shot outside of the 18 to make it 2-0 where it would remain until the break.
The second half saw the Lions outshoot the Engineers, but WPI proved lethal in their shots with MacLeod striking again with a shot to the bottom right corner from Sam Russell. The Russell/MacLeod show continued on for two more goals before time would exhaust as Russell added two more into EC's net to pull it to the 5-0 final.
The Lions return to action this Wednesday as they set to host Suffolk with a 6 p.m. game against the Rams at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
