Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – A huge goal by Adam Halliday lifted the Emerson Men's Soccer Team to a 2-1 double overtime win over Rivier Tuesday night. With the win the Lions improve to 6-7-4 overall while Rivier drops to 1-14- on the year.
The first half saw the Lions come out strong with 11 shots to Rivier's three, but the Raiders made good use of their offensive attack as they scored first on the night as Michael Russo collected on a misplayed header that he cranked into the bottom left of the net. The Lions couldn't seem to answer, with RU's Gary Archambault making five saves to send the game into half with Riv up 1-0.
The Raider defense held the line as well in the second half, this time against 18 Emerson shots, with seven saves for Archambault. The Lions suffered a loss in the 71st minute though as Carter Bowers was awarded a red card and ejected from the game, forcing EC to play with a man down.
Henri Fisher came in clutch for the Lions though with four saves in the half before Dan Knight crossed a perfect ball that Clark Jacobson chipped in over the goalie's head to knot it 1-1 and send it to OT.
The first overtime was fairly quiet with only three shots taken between both teams, none of which were on target. Three minutes into the second overtime the Lions found a way though with Mitch Lapierre setting up Adam Halliday who put up a right footed volley across the far post to end it for EC's second overtime win of the season.
The Lions will close out the 2014 regular season this Saturday as they set to host Babson in NEWMAC action at Rotch Field at 4 p.m. in Boston, Mass.
