Box Score NORTON, Mass. – An offensive showcase awaited the Lions Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Men's Soccer Team fell in a tough 5-2 match versus Wheaton in NEWMAC action. The Lions are now 4-7-3 on the year and 0-5 in conference play while Wheaton moves to 13-2-1 overall and 5-0 in NEWMAC play.
The first half saw EC hold it down with Carter Bowers making five saves in the first 45 minutes. The Lion defense finally wore down in the 23rd minute with Luke Finkelstein gathering a loose ball that he blanked into the net to make it 1-0. The Lyons struck again before the half ran out with Brian Kenny setting up Ben Altneu for his first goal of the game to send it to the break with Wheaton up 2-0.
The second half saw Altneu put up another goal out of the gate in the 49th minute before an own goal put Emerson in a 4-0 hole. The Lions were determined to battle though as Mitch Lapierre helped set up Adam Halliday to cut it to 4-1. Wheaton answered the goal in the 83rd minute though to pull it to 5-1. Emerson never gave up though as in the 87th minute Samson Brody's shot was rebounded by Ryan Carino who put in his second goal of the year to send it to the 5-2 final.
The Lions will travel to Fisher on Tuesday for a non-conference match up. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Boston, Mass.
