BOSTON, Mass. – Kat Rice put up 11 kills on the day while Juliana Tucker toss up 45 assists as the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team opened their 2013 season with two straight sweeps over Suffolk and FDU. With the wins EC opens up with a 2-0 record.

The Lions came out to make quick work of the Rams in the first set as Juliana Tucker put up seven assists in the set. Giuli Frendak and Kat Rice anchored the offense with three kills each as EC rolled to a 25-13 win. Emerson's defense came out to play in the second set as SU could only swing -.057 on the set as the Lions posted two blocks. Rookie Jessica Hamilton came out swinging it to drop five kills for a .364 average as the Lions took set two 25-16.

Set three saw Emerson shake up the line-up a bit as Frendak took over the setting duties with eight assists in her final tally. Kat Westbrook came out to lead EC in the set as well flooring four on the Rams as the Lions closed out the sweep 25-22.

Game two on the night pitted the Lions against the FDU Devils where in the first set they came out all systems go again as EC cranked a .375 average as a team with Amanda Linzmeyer and Kat Rice dropping three on the Devils in a 25-13 win.

Set two saw Amanda Linzmeyer step it up again with three more kills for EC while Juliana Tucker ran the show with nine assists to keep the Devils off-kilt the entire set as the Lions ran off with a 25-18 win. Set three was all D as the Lions put up three blocks on the Devils who couldn't swing in the positive the whole set. Julianna Augustine led EC flooring three as Emerson closed out the sweep 25-15.

The Lions will vie for the Emerson Invitational crown tomorrow as they close out their opening weekend against Salve Regina at 3 p.m. in Boston, Mass. at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym.
